Being Indian

Different people have different notions about what makes a real Indian!

Like some people think, followers of Indian traditions and culture are the true proud Indians.
Some others think Hindus –or the original inhabitants who settled on the banks of the river Indu are the only real Indians!
There are others who do not know what being Indian is, but they say- those who follow and worship too much western concepts are not Indian!

There are different religious and political groups claiming to be more Indian than the others. It is like children of the same mother fighting amongst themselves.

The truth is, anybody with an experience of living in India has a different sensibility than others. Even foreigners who’ve spent some considerable time in India will have a different angle of looking at life- perhaps more spiritual!

So logically- it’s not our faith, dress code and our ideology that makes us Indian.

Perhaps the soul basis of determining a true Indian should be “how much 1 has done for his country- forgetting the other petty issues we so much give importance to!” – I guess that would bring an end to all arguments and silly fights!

  1. Hi, I arrived here from DSincro's blog.

That was an excellent post. This is an interesting argument you have put forward - that of measuring the Indian-ness of an Indian by the amount of give-back they have done for the country.

I think I have no choice but to agree with this measuring instrument - especially since none of the other factors that you have mentioned carry any merit.
