Rare Specimen!

Here's something we don't hear a Brit say!

  1. Whoa! Now that's something very rare indeed! Of course, it it something about colonial arrogance that we always knew - but this time duly acknowleged by a Britisher. Full marks to Sebastian - it takes guts to admit to such shortcomings of one's own country!

I was about to write a post about the insult dished out to the Indian shooting contingent in England recently - but I don't even think that is necessary any longer. This article says it all.

  2. I donot want to sound like one of those country bashers here but i must admit I was shocked to read that Mr. Sebastian found more beggars on the streets of London than in Tamil Nadu. I do not know which part of Tamil Nadu he was visiting (probably some affluent regions of Chennai, the capital city) but whatever little I saw of Tamil Nadu recently through Ooty disappointed me very much. The beauty of the hill station was ruined with filthiness all around. To give an example: A giant gutter was flowing parallel to the City Bus stand and commuters had to bear all sorts of odd smells and visual sights while crossing it and authorities seemed unconcerned about it. Plastic Free Zone in the Botanical garden and Public Parks were filled with loads of plastic waste and no-one seemed to care! People did not have any civic sense!

  3. The writer of that article is drawing your attention to the behavior and the attitude of the Brits! And of course when it comes to the courtesy, hospitality, humility and helpfulness Indians always rank high!

Yes Di, I am surprised a Brit had so many pleasant memories to take home from TN- but I am happy about it!!
